HGV Driver Fined £1000 for failing to take a break
A County Down Commercial Goods Vehicle Operator was fined a total of £1,000 at Omagh Magistrates’ Court for tachograph (drivers’ hours) offences.
The charges came after the driver was stopped by DVA officers as part of a goods vehicle operation. Four tachograph offences were detected.
He received a £1,000 fine for the offence of failing to take a 45-minute break after four hours thirty minutes driving.
He also received a conditional discharge for one year on three other counts of the same offence and ordered to pay an offender levy of £15 and court costs of £19.
Drivers can not afford to miss their required breaks and operators need to manage their tachograph data and drivers’ hours to avoid expensive fines.
