1 in 5 Drivers Admit Taking Penalty Points for Someone Else

18th Jul 2022

Police are aware of a common licence fraud that seems to be becoming all too common. Taking penalty points for another driver may seem like a selfless thing to do, taking the points and claiming the fault as your own and allowing their punishment to be reflected on your licence. This is perjury, perverting the course of natural justice.

Unfathomably, one in five drivers admitted to taking penalty points for someone else, according to research. Making up 19% of drivers, men are more likely to take points for someone else, with 28% of men having done so compared with 10% of women who reported they had.

With this issue clearly being wide spread it’s more important than ever to ensure that our drivers’ licences are checked against DVLA records – in order for operators licences to be protected.
