A temporary relaxation of the EU drivers’ hours rules for a 30-day period, for drivers was announced on 18 March 2020 to help with COVID-19. The temporary relaxation of the enforcement of the drivers’ hours rules started from 00:01 on 18 March 2020 and was planned to end at 23:59 on 16 April 2020 and was then extended to the end of May 2020. Following a review, the Department for Transport has confirmed that the temporary relaxation to the EU drivers’ hours rules will not be extended and ended at 23:59 on 31 May 2020. The relaxation to domestic GB drivers’ hours rules will continue until 23:59 on 14 June 2020, but will be kept under review.
