A HGV driver has been given a 12-month ban by Nick Denton, the Traffic Commissioner for the South East and Metropolitan area, after he illegally used another driver’s digital tachograph driver card to work double shifts. The role of Traffic Commissioners is to determine if a driver is fit to obtain or continue to hold a licence or not. The driver was reported for committing 84 drivers’ hours and tachograph offences and regularly worked between 70 and 80 hours a week and on some occasions up to 90 hours. The maximum allowed under the Working Time Directive is 60 hours. The driver was reported for committing 84 drivers’ hours and tachograph offences. The Traffic Commissioner, said that the driver’s conduct “severely jeopardises road safety”. The commissioner implemented the ban following a driver conduct hearing in Birmingham.
