A HGV driver caused "danger to the public" by driving for about 500 hours more than he should have done.  The driver admitted ten offences of falsifying tachograph records between February 6 and July 7 and also asked for 66 other offences to be considered. The offences came to light after a check at Immingham port of a lorry towing a trailer. The tachograph was checked and it was discovered that the driver was using another Portuguese driver's card. He had driven about 500 hours longer than he should have done in the surrounding area on 66 occasions. The driver had built up large debts through gambling on the internet and was motivated by money to clear the debts. The Judge Peter Kelson QC told the driver "These offences are serious and they cause danger to the public. "You accepted that you could have hurt somebody as a result of being tired and that is very bad." The driver was jailed for six months. Source: Scunthorpe Telegraph
