Temporary relaxation of enforcement of drivers' hours extended.
Posted by AndrewT on 17th Sep 2021
The temporary relaxation of the enforcement of the retained EU drivers' hours rules for all road haulage sectors in Great Britain has been extended until 3 October 2021. This is in response to requests from within the transport sector.
The extension of the temporary relaxation of the rules reflects the exceptional circumstances arising from the cumulative impacts of the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, Brexit and an acute shortage of drivers of heavy goods vehicles, which adversely affect the carriage of goods by road, causing acute supply chain pressures.
The original relaxation applied from 12 July 2021 until 8 August 2021. The extension applies from 9 August 2021 until 3 October 2021 and is subject to review.
