Revised guidance on defect categories

Posted by AndrewT on 26th Mar 2021

The DVSA have updated their guidance on how defects in roadside checks are categorised. The amended rules came into effect from 1 February 2021. So, if you are not sure of the changes now is the time to find out what’s new. The first area covers the banned tyres aged over 10 years for HGVs, buses, coaches and minibuses. New notes on dashboard mounted tables, laptops, tablets and phones have also been added to issues that affect the view of the road. The other areas that have been updated include:
  • Brakes
  • Lamps
  • Steering
  • Suspension
You can see what’s new at www.gov.uk. It has been reported that 80% of roadside prohibitions due to roadworthiness could have been avoided if an effective vehicle safety check had taken place.  You can take advantage of paperless vehicle checks and real-time defect reporting for just £5 per vehicle per month with SmartCheck.  Find out more and sign-up today.
