As of Monday 5 March 2018 the DVSA will start issuing on-the-spot fines for historic drivers’ hours offences committed in the previous 28 days.
In a single roadside check, DVSA traffic examiners will be able to issue fines of £300 per offence for up to five drivers’ hours offences. Offenders could be fined up to £1,500 in a single check regardless of where the offences took place in the UK or elsewhere – with the rules also applying to drivers who do not live in Great Britain, see blog post.
For the most serious offences the DVSA will also have the option to immobilise the vehicle.
On February 13 2018 Descartes launched Smartanalysis Pre-pay. The new online pre-pay system has been introduced to provide maximum ease for existing and new customers. Customers can now choose to pre-pay, making a one off-payment with a credit card, for up to 50 drivers, for up to 5 years. This new way of paying lowers customers’ administration costs, makes it easier to acquire the services, and allows them to spend more time on their business. Smartanalysis Pre-pay is available for £40 per driver per year or less for more than 10 drivers.
A single £300 fine for a histroric drivers hours offence would fund Smartanalysis for seven and a half years!
