New DVLA tachograph driver card service
Posted by AndrewT on 29th Jun 2021
The new service launched by the DVLA will cut wait times and allows instant payments for tachograph driver cards. HGV, bus and coach drivers can now apply and pay for their tachograph drivers card online in just a few minutes and make the payment online.
There are around 780,000 tachograph card holders that will be able to take advantage of the new service to apply for a new card, renew a card if it’s expiring within 90 days or to replace a lost or stolen card. The option of making a paper based application still exists and can be sent by post. The new online service is quicker, easier and available 24/7. Tachograph cards will be issued within 24 hours for online applications whereas it could be 10 days or more by posted paper applications.
To use the online service drivers will need a valid GB photocard driving licence issued by DVLA. The online process will also provide email and or text updates from the DVLA.
The DVLA should be informed immediately if a drivers’ card is lost, stolen, damaged or not working correctly and transport operators have a duty to ensure their drivers hold a valid tachograph card. Descartes SmartAnalysis, tachograph analysis and reporting service provides a DTCO Driver Card Report that lists all the driver cards at the company with the issue and expiry date to make this task easier.
