A haulage firm director admitted that he deceived Government inspectors over employment of a transport manager and was disqualified by the West Midlands Traffic Commissioner, Nick Denton. A Public Inquiry held on 25 October revealed that the operator had no transport manager between December 2009 when their licence was first granted and July 2017. The business admitted that it had made out that it was employing a transport manager when it wasn’t. In May 2017 the Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA) examiner was told that the transport manager was unavailable due to illness. The company also had issues with downloading tachograph data from digital driver cards and tachograph vehicle unit. Revoking the company’s licence with effect from November 22, Denton said: “The operator’s behaviour, in pretending it had a transport manager to support its standard national licence and enable it to carry out operations for hire and reward, has undermined the entire regulatory system and has constituted unfair competition against those standard licence holders which play by the rules and employ professionally competent transport managers.” The disqualification order took effect on the same date.
